Mrs Richardson

Hello my name is Lucy Richardson and I am the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) at Saltwood  Church of England Primary School.

I am in school every Wednesday and Thursday and can be contacted via the school office on:

Phone: 01303 266058     Email: senco@saltwood.kent.sch.uk

At Saltwood Church of England Primary School we strive to support all children to enable them to achieve and meet their full potential. In order to do this, many steps are taken to support them on their learning journeys.

Quality First Teaching is the foundation for all learning experiences. However, for some children there may be occasions where further additional support may be needed to help them to access a full academic and social experience and maximise their learning journey.

How we identify pupils who may require additional support:

  • Concerns are raised by parents/carers, teachers, teaching assistants or the pupil’s previous school.
  • There is a lack of progress.
  • Attainment is below national expectation.
  • There is a change in the pupil’s behaviour.
  • A pupil asks for help.

One of my main roles is to liaise with staff and parents to monitor and plan further provision, where necessary, and evaluate the impact of these. I meet regularly with a wide range of external agencies including Speech and Language therapists, Specialist teaching and learning service, Educational Psychology, School Nurses, and Early Help. These are all able to offer help, support and specialist advice.

Our school works to support speech, language and communication with support from our NHS link speech & language therapist Karen Sheppard as well as specialist teachers. You child may come into contact with Karen within their classroom or around school. Mrs Richardson will have regular meetings with Karen to discuss our school’s provision.

If you have any concerns about your child’s speech, language or communication skills, please speak to your child’s class teacher in the first instance.

If we have discussed a specific concern with you about your child’s speech, language or communication, or you have raised a concern, we will decide together whether to discuss this with our link therapist. You will be kept informed of any plans to support your child.”

Here at Saltwood Church of England Primary School we believe in working as a team, with the child at the heart of every decision we make.
