If you think the child is in immediate danger, you should call the police.
Designated Safeguarding Leads
Saltwood School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
Our Designated Safeguarding Leads are Mr Newton (Headteacher) and Mr Thomas(Deputy Headteacher) .
Please contact them if you have any concerns regarding child protection and safeguarding.
We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection Policy which can be viewed here.
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies, when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.
We actively support the Government’s Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism.
Here are some useful links and resources from the NSPCC on keeping children safe.
Online Safety
Please view our dedicated Online Safety page for guidance and for information about how we teach this area of the curriculum at Saltwood School.
Photographs and Videos
Whilst lots of parents and carers really enjoy seeing photos and videos of their children’s school life we are very mindful of our duty of care towards all our pupils. We take the issue of safeguarding very seriously and this includes the use of photographic and video images.
Any photographs or videos taken by parents, carers and relatives at school productions, sports days or other events are for the enjoyment of individual families. They must not be used in any way that could potentially place a child at risk. This would include publishing images in any form of print or on the internet including social networking sites. This is emphasised before concerts and shows etc.
Generally, photographs are a source of pleasure and pride. We believe that the taking and use of photographs can enhance the self-esteem of children and their families and therefore is something to be welcomed and appreciated.
We may take photographs for a number of reasons whilst your child is with us, including:
- Documenting and recording education activities
- Recording their learning and development progress
- Recording special events and acheivements
We will also encourage children to be active learners and to become involved in suing cameras and iPads themselves by taking photos of their surroundings, activities and of each other.
We do, however, recognise that with the increase use of technologies, particularly digitally and online, the potential for misuse has become greater and we understand that this can give rise to concern. We will therefore endeavour to put effective safeguards in place to protect children and young people by minimising risk.
We are mindful of the fact that some families may have some reasons why protecting a child’s identity is a matter of particular anxiety. If you have special circumstances either now or at any time in the future which would affect you position please let us know immediately in writing.
We include the safe use of cameras and images as part of our Online Safety Policy
To comply with the Data Protection Act 1988, we need your permission before we can photograph or make any recordings of your child. Parents and carers are required to complete and sign a consent form for the use of images and videos.
