Sport Premium Funding Statement

What is the Sport Premium?

The Government is providing over £320 million a year to improve Physical Education (PE) and Sport in primary schools, to improve healthy lifestyles among pupils and tackle childhood obesity. Saltwood Church of England Primary School is receiving £17,840 for the year 2024-25.

Schools can choose how they use the funding, for example to:

  • hire specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers during PE lessons;
  • support and involve children by running after-school sports;
  • provide opportunities for children to experience a broad range of sporting activities.

At Saltwood School we have used the Sport Premium to improve the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity by participating in the Shepway Sports Trust  School Games competition package, running extra curricular clubs, allowing children to attend sports events in and out of school such as District Sports.

Impact:

  • All teachers have access to high quality CPD for increased skills, knowledge, understanding and  confidence in a range of PE curriculum areas.
  • Teachers have undertaken Professional Development in PE to increase confidence and provide opportunities for peer-reflection.
  • All pupils regularly take part in high quality PE lessons.
  • Pupils have the opportunity to take part in extra curricular sports.
  • Increased participation in competitive sport.
  • Healthy lifestyles are promoted.
  • Additional swimming lessons are provided for Year 6 children in the Summer term

Saltwood School has also bought into The Shepway School Games Competition Package as well as a variety of sporting workshops provided by the Shepway Sports Trust.

This involves our pupils in a whole range of activities and inter-school competitions from years R-6, including tournaments of Football, Cricket, Reception Fun Days, Handball and Cross Country. This funding provides pupils from years R-6 with opportunities to take part in a variety of both traditional and non-traditional sports. This year workshops and intra-school competitions include Rugby Tots, Tri-Golf, American Football, Hockey and Yoga.
