Year 6 Courageous Advocacy Project 2023
Having read Lost! by Ele Fountain in a previous term Year 6 were driven to raise some funds to help street children in India. Mr Thomas made contact with Khushi Feet, a charity based in Faversham which raises funds to help provide street children of Kolkata with a basic education, with the hope of breaking the cycle of poverty. Whilst at the school the children also have some good quality food and a safe place to socialise – all things our children at Saltwood take for granted.
Emily – the founder - came into school to deliver an engaging presentation about her charity during our Worship on Tuesday. She showed some videos and images of the conditions some of the children live in and explained her motivation for setting up the charity during her university education. Emily was accompanied by Khushi the cow – the mascot for the charity – and both led the school in some Bollywood style dancing. It was fantastic to see all of the children (and staff alike) dancing together in the Hall!

So, how will Year 6 children be raising funds?
Over the coming weeks there will be several fundraising events, including a sponsored run (Year 6) along with some games that all children can enter, for example, guess the number of sweets in a jar. Please look out for further information in upcoming newsletters, via Parent Mail and look out for posters around the school. You will also notice some Year 6 children with a collection bucket in the playground at home time. Please donate if you feel able.
The first event will be a cake sale, manned by Year 6 children, in the playground after school on Friday 31st March – the last day of Term 4. On this occasion the cakes will be provided by the parents and carers of Year 6 children. However, if you feel you’d like to contribute we will of course not turn any cakes away! Please deliver any cakes to Year 6 on the morning of Friday 31st March, should you wish. If you make homemade cakes, please provide a full list of the ingredients which will be displayed next to the cakes. Please do not use any kind of nuts in the cakes. Thank you.
