Saltwood Congratulated by Schools Minister

 Saltwood has always been proud of the excellent progress our children make with their reading. The journey to being an enthusiastic, independent reader starts with learning the sounds that the letters make when you put them all together. In Year 1 children complete a ‘Phonics Screen’ which assesses how well they are able to decode words phonetically, and therefore read them. I was delighted to receive a letter from Nick Gibb congratulating us for the fact that in 2022, 100% of our Year 1 children achieved the expected standard in the Phonics Screen, which puts Saltwood in the top 1% of schools in the country.
