Autumnal Andy Goldsworthy Art

We looked at some of the works of Andy Goldsworthy and had a go at creating our own. Just like Andy's art, ours was in situ outside. We worked in pairs to collect our resources, being mindful about colour and shape. I was so impressed with how the children chose their natural items carefully and the art they created is truly beautiful. Well done everyone.

Chinese New Year

We have loved celebrating Chinese New Year in Class R. We have learned a lot about the stories and the celebrations. We enjoyed making vegetable kebabs, Chinese lanterns and even opening our very own Chinese restaurant!

Sports Fun Day at Three Hills

Class R did a super job of representing Saltwood School at the Year R funday at the 3 Hills in Folkestone. The children took part in a variety of sports, including curling and wheelchair basketball! Well done to everyone and a huge thank you to the parents that gave up their mornings to come with us too!

Book Week 2022

We had an amazing week celebrating some of our favourite books and stories.  Ian from KIC theatre joined us and we had so much fun acting out some Traditional Tales. We are looking forward to recreating lots of the stories at the end of this term too.

We were also lucky enough to enjoy an afternoon of paired reading with our friends from Year 4. Each group chose their own books to read together and everyone really enjoyed it!

Morris Dancer Visit

We had a fabulous time with our visitors from East Kent Morris dancing. They came in and told us all about the tradition of Morris dancing. They bought an interesting instrument called a melodeon and we had a go at some dancing as well as enjoying a performance from our guests. We are so grateful that they came to see us and it has definitely inspired us to keeeeeeep dancing!

A Visit From A Pilot

A huge thank you to Xander's Daddy for teaching us about what it is like to fly an airplane!  Xander's Daddy told us all about the planes, the crews and the people on the ground who help us when we go on holiday. We are really grateful that he came to see us and we are really looking forward to welcoming more parents and visitors soon.

Easter Gala and Easter nest cakes

We had a wonderful time performing for our parents and carers at the Easter gala. We had an Easter bonnet parade, sang Makaton songs and talked about the symbols of Easter. We made Easter nest cakes to sell at the gala and this tied nicely into our work on capacity. The money from the cakes will go to our courageous advocacy project, raising funds for the RNLI. We also did lots of dancing, including traditional Morris dancing with bells and hankies! Well done to everyone, we are all so proud of you.

Courageous Advocacy 2022

This Summer we will be raising money and raising awareness of water safety for the RNLI. We will visit the life boat station in term 6 and make a video for the school on how to be safe at the seaside.

Sponsored Walk to Waitrose

Class R did an amazing job on our sponsored walk to Waitrose, raising funds for the RNLI as part of our courageous advocacy project. As well as walking to and from the store, the children had a guided tour from the store Manager. They learned lots of facts about fruit and vegetables and we took back a selection of fruits to taste too. Thank you to the lovely parents who accompanied us; we are looking forward to taking the funds to Dover lifeboats station next term.

Class R visited by The Police!

Today we had a visit from two lovely PSCOs called Ewan and Chris. They answered lots of our questions, let us try on some uniform and even let us look inside their car!
