The Story of The Paralysed Man

This story from the book of Luke is important to our school. We want our children to be like the paralysed man's friends and show Love, Creativity and Strength! Class 4 undertook an RE challenge to see if they can work together just like the friends

Class 4 Sculpture Designs

We have started our Art unit on sculpture - and it begins with making 2D appear 3D!

What do you think of our early designs? Do they look like you could lift them off the page?

In trying to create a 3D effect we have learned about light & dark, shading, perspective and curvature. Not easy!

Raft Building at Brockhill Park

Year 4 visited Brockhill Park this month as part of the "Downs on Your Doorstep" scheme. With a focus on science (pond-dipping/classification) and team-building (raft making), all the children had a fantastic time! Our deep thanks to Ranger Kate who valiantly tested all of our rafts at the end of the day!

Barbara Hepworth Sculptures

Year 4 have moved from design through to first sculpture in their art unit! Our focus study was the work of Barbara Hepworth. How close do you think we got to the form and shape of her work? The whole sculpture, from the soap miniature replica through to the wooden stand it was fixed upon, was our own work - check out our cutting skills as we set-up a workshop under our new canopy to make the stand section! We are only missing a hardhat! We hope you enjoy the short video showing some of the finished pieces.

Courageous Advocacy Project

Year 4 have started a small Courageous Advocacy project! Our main project will follow later in the year, but we simply couldn't sit by this winter and watch the birds and other animals struggling! As part of our "Creation" unit in RE this term, we looked carefully at stewardship, and how Christians view the world with a deep sense of responsibility. God literally left the World in our hands, and it is a matter of faith to take care of it. We started close to home, by examining our own school grounds - which was where we found our bird feeder rusted and broken! Time to take immediate action for change! Rooted in the bible verse of Genesis 1:20-22 we are now raising money for a new bird table with a quiz from A Rocha - a Christian charity dedicated to caring for the planet. You can check them out at: https://arocha.org/en/
It's 50p to enter, you answer the questions and return to them to Class 4 by Friday 15th November, and a 'winner' will be randomly selected from the entries to receive a £5 book token! Not only do the birds get a boost for the winter, and beyond, but you also could receive a lovely boost to your reading!

Monday Chats at the Lads Club

As part of our Courageous Advocacy work, we decided to join in with one of the community projects within our village.

Monday Chats is a group set up to give retired people a place to find and develop friendships. They meet up every week to chat, have tea and cake and a game of bingo.

We wanted to give our time to help people in our community so we visited the group armed with board games to play. The children were wonderful with the older people and got stuck into chatting and playing games. At the end we sang our Easter song 'New Beginning' which our audience really enjoyed.

It was also an excellent learning experience for us because it helped us to understand how a community project works and how just a few people, volunteering their time, can make such a positive difference for others. Reverend Barry told us about the history of the group and its dedicated volunteers. We also learnt about the past of the Lad's Club and spoke to the gentleman who designed the new Lad's Club.  It was a very interesting and enjoyable afternoon.

Brockhill Park Trip - Spring 2025

The children had a wonderful time on our trip to Brockhill Park. They learnt about how to recycle materials to help to keep our world healthy. Later on, they learnt about what the birds need this time of year to build their nests and the children made some beautiful nests of their own. The class were extra fortunate because they spotted some newborn lambs and were given the opportunity to hand feed some sheep and stroke the lambs. It was a brilliant day.
